Department of Public Works

The Borough’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is responsible for maintaining the borough streets.

Garbage Collection
Milford Borough offers weekly garbage pickup, outsourced by Casella, on Thursdays at 7:00 a.m. All garbage should be bagged and in the cans. No trash or cardboard left outside the cans will be picked up.

-
Residents
-
Residents are only allowed one (1) 96-gallon garbage can, supplied by Casella, which should be placed for collection on the Street or Alley.
-
-
Commercial Properties
-
Commercial properties are allowed one (1) 96-gallon garbage can, supplied by Casella.
-
Commercial properties preparing food on-site must have their dumpsters screened, gated, and secured, per the borough ordinance.
-
Contact the Borough office for information about dumpsters.
-
Please note that private haulers may not empty dumpsters before 8 a.m., or the hauler will be ticketed by the Milford Police.
-

Lawn Waste
-
Weather permitting, yard waste (grass clippings, weeds, shrubs, twigs, and tree branches) will be picked up by the DPW employees.
-
All yard waste is to be placed in cans along the side of the alley behind your property. Contact the Borough office with questions about placement.
-
Plastic bags may not be used for grass or lawn trimming; these materials must be placed in plastic or metal cans or paper yard waste bags. No more than three such containers may be placed for pickup in any one week.
-
If you have too many shrubs or branches to place in cans, then please bundle them with rope or twine so that they can easily be lifted by a worker. Remember, if you cannot easily lift the bundle or can, to shoulder height, then the worker cannot lift the bundle or can, to throw it into the dump truck.
-
Do not place pruning from vines, bushes, or trees in metal containers unless the materials are in pieces less than six inches in length.
-
Large or long branches must be cut to a size that is easily handled for collection. Vine, bush, and tree pruning must be cut and bundled separately in lengths not less than 12 inches nor more than 40 inches, and each bundle shall not weigh more than 50 pounds.
-
Any can or bundle that cannot be lifted by the street worker will not be collected.

Leaf Collection
The annual leaf collection occurs on several days during November and early December. Leaves must be raked into piles on the side of the street directly in front of the property so that the leaf vacuum machine can easily remove them.

After the autumn leaf collection, or at other times during the year, residual leaves can be placed in biodegradable paper bags and left curbside or in the alley for pickup.
