Milford Borough Trees

There has been some confusion lately regarding street trees in Milford Borough.  Street trees are those trees planted in the verge along all of our streets, NOT the Alleyways.

Street trees belong to the Borough and cannot be trimmed or taken down without permission from the Borough.  However, by House Bill 127 of the Pennsylvania general assembly in 1981, when a tree is judged to require removal the abutting property owner is financially responsible for removal.  Several times each year our Shade Tree Commission assesses the health and well-being of the street trees in our Borough.  If a tree requires removal, the Property Owner is given an estimate of the cost and then has the option of contracting for the removal of the tree themselves, or accepting the estimate provided by the Borough.  If the Property Owner fails to pay the Borough when billed, a lien will be placed on the property for the removal and any related legal costs.

Please call the Borough Office at 570-296-7140 if you have any questions.
